Communication Device Assessment Process
We often get asked questions such as
“How do I get a communication device?”
“We have funding for an AAC device can we buy something now?”
“Why does it take so long to get a device?”
The assessment, trial and funding process can take time BUT it is important that the individual gets a device that meets their needs now and into the future. There are so many options out there, all of which offer different features and functions.
The process of assessing and prescribing a communication device is collaborative and involves:
The individual and key stakeholders meeting to discuss the individual’s current communication and identifying the features they need within a communication system
Accessing suppliers and demo devices to explore the range of options
Collaborating with AT suppliers to access trial equipment
Evaluating the trials and determining the pros and cons
Writing applications for funding including NDIS Assistive Technology Applications
Training individuals and communication partners in setting up and using the communication system
Accessing ongoing support to ensure your system continues to meet your needs
